Top Beauty Foods – So You Can Glow From the Inside Out

Our skin is our largest detoxification organ in our body therefore what you put into your body matters as much as what you put onto your skin. Inflammation, food sensitivities, stress, digestive issues, lack of sleep, dehydration and hormonal imbalances are bound to pop up on our skin in some way or another. This may look like acne, dry skin, skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis, skin rashes, blemishes or general lackluster, dull skin.

Our skin requires enough energy and healthy calories to keep it healthy, tight and glowing. Healthy skin especially thrives from healthy fats, antioxidants, phytonutrients, and protein. Nourishing our bodies from the inside will always show on the outside. Therefore the most important thing you can do to get healthy skin now is to start from the inside to support your health on a cellular level.

Here are my Top Beauty Foods to add into your diet to achieve healthy, glowing skin.

Research has shown that raw cacao contains anti-aging antioxidants (known as flavonoids), which fight free radicals and help protect your skin from UV damage, prevent the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and skin discolouration. Raw cacao also makes you happy. When you eat it, your brain releases endorphins and phenylethylamine, which elicits the “head over heels” feeling of falling in love. When you feel good, you look good ?.

Walnuts contain omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin E that helps your skin stay smooth and plump.

Omega 3 also helps protect your hair from sun damage and keeps it lustrous and shiny.

Another nut that is rich in vitamin E are almonds. Almonds are also rich in flavonoids. Both vitamin E and flavonoids are vital to skin health. They are known to help ward off damaging free radicals and even oxidative damage caused by smoking. Almonds are a great source of satisfying fibre and protein. Their manganese and selenium content also helps keep your hair shiny.

Spinach is considered a top beauty food as it contains a triple dose of wrinkle fighting antioxidants: vitamins C, E and betacarotene. These all work together to protect your skin from the sun’s aging UV rays (although you should still wear sunscreen with a minimum 30 SPF).

One of the most potent beauty foods are chia seeds. Although tiny, these seeds are MIGHTY! They are packed with protein, fibre and loads of omega 3’s – which are all great for skin and hair. Since chia seeds absorb up to 12x their weight in water, they also keep you feeling full longer.

Flaxseeds, although small, provide a huge boost of omega 3 fatty acids, which are beyond good for you. Preliminary studies have shown both omega 3 and 6 help prevent or treat skin conditions, such as acne and eczema. Anti-inflammatory properties of omega 3’s can also maintain healthy rates of skin renewal. To ensure your body absorbs all of these beauty boosting benefits, eat flaxseeds in ground or “meal” form.

One of the ultimate “GET GORGEOUS” fruits are avocados (yes, avocado is a fruit). Avocados are known for keeping hair, skin and nails healthy. The monounsaturated fatty acids packed into these creamy fruits not only help lower bad cholesterol levels, but also reduce the appearance of skin aging. Avocados contain antioxidants, fiber, potassium, magnesium and folate. And I bet you didn’t know that a single avocado has more potassium than a medium sized banana.

I saved the best for last… seaweed (also referred to as sea vegetables) like nori, wakame or sea moss are loaded with iron and phytonutrients. All of these algae superfoods help you attain gorgeous, supple skin. Sea vegetables are also packed with manganese, iodine, copper, zinc, omega 3 and selenium. These along with iron are essential for gorgeous hair, skin and nails. So it’s no wonder when you use Seaflora Skincare you can expect gorgeous, glowing, healthy skin.
