Are your products organic?
Our products are manufactured with certified organic seaweeds as well as marine minerals and ocean mud. Outer Coast Seaweeds, our licensed harvesters, sustainably harvests all of these ingredients, for exclusive use in Seaflora Skincare.

All of the other ingredients that we use to make Seaflora products are either Certified Organic or Food Grade. As always, our commitment is to manufacturing products that are FREE of the following toxic and/or environmentally hazardous ingredients - commonly used in many popular brand name beauty products: Insecticides, herbicides or fungicides, fertilizers, genetically modified ingredients (GMOs), artificial fragrances, dioxins, petrochemicals, sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, mineral oil, parabens, imidazolidinyl urea, hexane, phthalates, formaldehyde and aluminum.

What is the shelf life of your products?
Our products last for 18 months after purchase unopened and one year after opening. 

Do you use parabens as a preservative in your products?
No. We do not use parabens of any kind in Seaflora products. To ensure the safety of our products, we do use a mild preservative, but we have carefully selected one that is organic and we use it at the minimum recommended levels.

What currency will my credit card be charged in the online store?

The currency billed is based on your location.  Our secure checkout will automatically bill in your home currency based on your location.

I am allergic to shellfish may I use Seaflora products?
There's no causative link between seafood and seaweed so those with an allergy to shellfish may use seaweed-based skincare products. If you have an allergy to specific compounds within shellfish, please contact us and we will verify whether or not that compound is contained in our products.

Why does my skin tingle after applying Seaflora masques or facial exfoliants?
As seaweeds penetrate, you may feel some activity on your face. This is due to the high concentration of vitamins and minerals that help to cleanse and detoxify your skin. This feeling is perfectly normal and may be accompanied by a slight redness of the skin. This feeling typically last 10-20min, but could last up to one hour.

If the redness or tingle persists for longer than one hour, please discontinue use until you have had a chance to contact us. We may need to help you choose a Seaflora product that is more suitable for your skin type.

Do your products contain ingredients made with Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)?
We are proud to say that we do not use any ingredients in our products that are genetically modified (GMO). A few of our products contain soy and corn derived ingredients which are 100% GMO-free.

Are your products tested on animals?
Seaflora does not believe in animal testing. We do not and never will use animals to test our products. In addition to respecting the safety and humanity of animals, we are advocates of the environment and leaders in sustainable business practices.

Where can I get Seaflora Products?
Seaflora’s entire product line is available at fine spas throughout North America.

Many of our products are also available at our online shop at seafloraskincare.com. We are able to deliver our products to people who don’t have a Seaflora Spa in their area.

We place a high priority on ensuring that all of our customers receive genuine Seaflora products. While online sellers may offer products that look like our products, and offer steep discounts, they may be selling expired, diluted or imitation products. To protect our customers, we use batch code numbers on the bottom of our products to track every single product that we sell internationally. Do you offer free samples?
We offer free samples in every order placed on www.seafloraskincare.com! If you would like to sample our products before purchasing, please email us at info@seafloraskincare.com. Please let us know the types of products you would like to sample, and include your location so we can send you a list of spas in your area to experience Seaflora products in person.

Why do some of your products vary in colour?
The color of seaweeds varies depending on the time and location of the seaweed harvested. Because Seaflora doesn’t use artificial colors to enhance our products, and we manufacture in small batches, there is some variation in the natural color of our products.

Why do some of the products contain sediment?
We manufacture all of our Seaflora products from certified organic whole seaweed. This nutrient-rich organic base is created from whole, hand-harvested seaweed to ensure that they sustain their essential nutrients. So the fiber that can be found in some of our products, mostly our cleansers and exfoliators, is actually just that – Seaweed Fiber. In addition to added nutrients, this natural fiber offers gentle manual exfoliation as you cleanse.

Are Seaflora products safe during pregnancy?
Safe, effective skincare during pregnancy is essential! Seaflora Products are made with either Certified Organic or Food Grade ingredients, which are detailed on our labels. Some of our products are also made with Organic Essential Oils, such as lavender. I have recently had plastic surgery, how long before I can use your products?
Please contact us directly at info@seafloraskincare.com. Explain the nature of your surgery and please include your location so that we may refer you to a Seaflora spa near you where you can discuss a post-surgery skincare regimen with a trained esthetician.

Are our seaweed harvest areas affected by the 2011 Japanese earthquake and Fukushima accident? 

Update March 19,2014:

 Supporting Seaflora's independent studies and continuous monitoring B.C waters show no increase in radiation after tsunami, says head of Vancouver Aquarium, No Ocean-borne radiation from Fukushima detected on West Coast shoreline

Background: On March 11, 2011, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake struck Japan and the ensuing tsunami washed an estimated 5 million tonnes of debris into the sea. The Japanese Ministry of Environment estimated that 70% immediately sank near the coast of Japan, leaving approximately 1.5 million tonnes floating in the Pacific Ocean. The debris is comprised of wood, plastics and other buoyant materials. Based on modeling of ocean currents, some of that material is expected to wash up on the western coastline of North America over the next few years.

Q. Where is the tsunami debris right now?
The majority of the debris is currently north and east of Hawaii (as of April 2013). The debris field location is tracked using a NOAA (US National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration) computer model and updated locations can be viewed at http://marinedebris.noaa.gov/info/images/gnome_graphic.jpg.  Some isolated “high windage” items have been early arrivals to the BC coast (not near our harvest area) but the bulk of the debris remains at sea.

Q. Is tsunami debris washing up in our seaweed harvesting area?
No. Tsunami debris has not been seen by either our harvesters or by responsible government agencies in the areas we harvest. We currently harvest in the Strait of Juan de Fuca and DFO (Fisheries & Oceans Canada, Ocean Sciences Division) believes that it is unlikely that much debris will enter the Strait due to the seaward flowing near-surface currents at the mouth of Juan de Fuca Strait.

Q. Is the tsunami debris contaminated with radioactivity?
No. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, it is extremely unlikely tsunami debris from Japan is radioactive since the tsunami struck days before the Fukushima‐Daiichi power plant incident occurred and the debris was carried out to sea before ever becoming contaminated. In addition, the breakup of the debris and exposure to the environment over long ocean distances combined with half life degradation of the isotopes will likely have reduced any radioactive contamination to very low levels, below any that would pose a human health threat. (US EPA; US Coast Guard guidelines, May 25, 2012). Canada’s DFO has been monitoring high windage materials thought to be tsunami-related and no radioactivity has been detected.

Q. What has been done to ensure the purity and safety of Seaflora products?
Following the Fukushima accident due to atmospheric circulation, low levels of radioactivity (non-health threatening) were detected around the globe in rainwater, vegetation and some agricultural products like milk.  Seaflora voluntarily made the prudent and precautionary decision not to harvest seaweeds in 2011, so there was no possibility of any contamination in our products.  When we resumed harvesting in 2012, we had our seaweeds analyzed for radioactivity by an independent lab (Becquerel Laboratories, Mississauga Ontario) and found nothing. All results were below detectable levels (for Cobalt-60, Iodine-131, Cesium-134, Cesium-137)- all good indicators of radioactivity release from reactor accidents.
